Holy Posca Pens!

You know how sometimes you come across a thing that just makes you wonder how you had never heard of it before? Definitely feel that way about Posca Pens. And apparently they’ve been around since the 80’s. We humans have done some bad shit, but we’ve also made some lovely shit. Like Posca Pens.

Here’s a quick recap of how I came upon them. As I was dreaming up the next book project (totally pretentious sounding), I thought about doing some lettering by hand. But what pen would I use? I need it to be green, I thought. But not like ink. More like paint. Does a paint pen exist? Oh it must. *quick Google* Oh no, I’m in love!

“Juicy” is how one reviewer described the feel of painting with a Posca Pen. Mmm, she was spot on. Sometimes the nib gets a bit scratchy, exacerbated by my hook-grip lefty-ness, but nothing a tiny bit of patience cannot overcome.

Still hook-gripping all these years later. Definitely a limitation when it comes to drawing. Thoughts / solutions welcome!

Even before I’d received my Posca Pens (yes, I am saying “Posca Pens” a lot - heck I even randomly say it out loud throughout the day), I had the first project sketched out and ready for some Posca juice. Here is the completed item!

That’s Lobby, our lobster. He’s a rescue. This notebook was also my first attempt at some “embroidery” for the title. Creative possibilities all around. Ugh, I’ve been so distracted for the past 25 years.

Before I got to Lobby I did a quick test with our alebrije owl.

And finally in a new Posca Pen inspired project I’ve started a sketchbook. I just bound one signature with 3 folios and added a manila folder protective cover. Eventually, once I have a few of these, I’ll bind them into a more substantial book.

Yeah, don’t miss that bookbinding lingo.
