Fresh Developments

Back in March when my community darkroom closed due to the pandemic, some friends purchased chemicals to develop film at home. Without the interaction required for portraits, and not going out onto the streets either, my photography had slowed to a trickle anyway, so I wasn’t especially eager to jump on the bandwagon. Well now the rest of 2020 has gone by and somehow a few rolls have accumulated. So I finally made the trip to Glass Key Photo to buy some D-76 and fixer.

It still seems like magic to me that these latent images remained patiently preserved in their canisters of film for the last several months. The elegance of this process gets me every time.

The last of the pre-pandemic photos on the roll before “shelter-in-place” took effect. This roll must have been sitting in the camera for a while, because there is no way that picture of Saisha was taken just last year.

Soon it was zoom for work, zoom for play.

And zoom for my birth-day!

“We’ve got the tools to deal with this,” she said.
